You Too Can Have A Beautiful Smile

    Beautiful Smile

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you–make it your best, beautiful smile. If your smile doesn’t meet your expectations, there are several things you can do to achieve having a beaming, beautiful smile.

    First Things First

Having healthy teeth is the first step to a beautiful smile. From flossing and brushing every day to professional cleaning and examination of your teeth twice a year, Dr. Angela S. Evanson, DDS will help you achieve the benefits of a beautiful and healthy smile.

Following are some basic ways to care for your teeth and get you on your way to having the kind of smile that is welcoming and beautiful.

Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day with Fluoride Toothpaste

You can improve your smile just by brushing your teeth every day. That sounds simplistic, but 30 percent of the adults in the US don’t brush twice a day, and some miss brushing their teeth every day altogether. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that you brush your teeth at least twice a day with a soft bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste for two minutes each time. Regular brushing helps teeth stay whiter and healthier and prevents plaque from hardening into tartar.

Floss Your Teeth Once a Day

Flossing is also a basic step to a beautiful smile. Some professionals recommend that you floss before bedtime to remove plaque between the teeth and under the gum line where a toothbrush can’t reach. Rinse your mouth with water after flossing, and use a fluoride mouthwash rinse to finish the job. Everyone can find six minutes a day to brush and floss!

What You Eat and Drink Affects Your Smile

Consumption of acidic or sugary drinks can dramatically increase tooth decay. Diet drinks are not exempt from damaging your teeth, as they also contain acids that attack the enamel on your teeth. There has been an increase in the rise of cavities, and experts attribute some of this to the effects of soda, energy drinks, sports drinks and bottled water that is not fluoridated. The ADA reminds us that water is the best drink for your body and it’s the best drink for a beautiful smile. Drinking water with fluoride is one of the easiest and most beneficial things you can do to help prevent cavities.

Smart snacking can keep your mouth healthy and your smile beautiful. Forgo sugary treats, carb-loaded crackers and chips, and opt for nutritious food choices such as raw vegetables, fruits, plain yogurt and popcorn. Round out your diet with eggs, salmon, lean meat, beans, nuts, milk, and cheese to promote strong and beautiful teeth.

    Are Your Pearly Whites Off-White?

If your teeth aren’t as white as they used to be it might be attributed to what you eat or drink. Substances such as coffee, tea, cola and red wine will stain your teeth, and stained teeth are not beautiful. Tobacco products also stain your teeth and damage healthy gums. Staining and discoloration in your teeth might make you feel embarrassed to the point that you hide your teeth when you smile!
