Are You Missing One or More Teeth?
The average adult between 20 and 64 has at least three decayed or missing teeth, according to the American Dental Association (ADA). Having a missing tooth over time is bound to cause some trouble. Likewise, teeth act as placeholders for each other and if a tooth is missing for an extended time, other adjacent or opposite teeth may shift and change your bite. Dr. Angela S. Evanson, DDS, can help restore your smile through the use of advanced technology.
If you are missing multiple teeth, especially front teeth, you may experience low self-confidence, altered speech, and lose your ability to chew. Furthermore, without timely replacement of missing teeth, you run the risk of:
- Damage or infection to your surrounding teeth, gums or jaw
- Bacterial infection to the heart and/or brain
What Are the Options for Tooth Restoration?
Restorative dentistry restores your teeth to their natural function and appearance. Likewise, restorative treatment not only protects the affected tooth, but the surrounding teeth also benefit. Dr. Evanson is skilled in various methods of tooth restoration.
Root Canal Therapy
Millions of teeth are treated and saved by root canal therapy every year, relieving pain and making teeth healthy again. Certainly, saving the natural tooth with root canal treatment has many advantages:
- Efficient chewing
- Normal biting force and sensation
- Natural appearance
- Protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain
CEREC Same Day Crowns
A crown is a dental prosthetic that protects a badly-damaged tooth. In other words, a crown restores the appearance of the tooth it covers and helps regain its function. Also, crowns are often used after a root canal has been performed on a tooth.
Dr. Evanson uses the most advanced restorative dental methods available, such as CEREC same day crowns. Moreover, thanks to technology, permanent dental crowns can be made in the dental office during one visit. Dr. Evanson can now create natural-looking ceramic crowns in her office. CEREC utilizes 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology to help her design a virtual restoration without taking impressions. And, when combined with a milling unit, she is able to build an actual crown while you sit in the dentist’s chair.
Tooth Colored Fillings
If you have a decayed tooth that requires a filling, Dr. Evanson will perform several steps for your restoration. First, she will remove any decay. Then, she will clean the affected area and fill the cleaned-out cavity with custom made composite resins. Most importantly, these resins are the color of your natural teeth. Furthermore, traditional silver fillings contain 50 percent mercury which expands, contracts, and can split, leaving the tooth susceptible to additional decay. However, tooth-colored composite resin fillings are superior in so many ways. And, the natural-colored fillings add to your confidence.
Dental Implant Restoration
If you’re missing a tooth, the best solution is likely a dental implant. Dental implants effectively keep a one tooth problem at that, rather than involving additional surrounding teeth. Implants are stronger than natural teeth, but you need healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. Implants require that you are committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, which is critical to the long-term success of dental implants.
