Frequently Asked Questions
Following are a few of the questions that may be on your list:
Do I Really Need to Get a Dental Checkup Twice a Year?
Your dental health is exclusive to you, but the American Dental Association (ADA) recommendation is that you visit a dentist twice a year even if your mouth is in excellent condition. This schedule of check-ups allows you to get your teeth cleaned professionally on a routine basis and ensures that potential issues are identified early. Occasionally, you may need to be seen more often depending on the health of your teeth. Dr. Evanson will guide what she recommends for your personal situation.
Is My Mouth Healthy?
Through a regular examination, Dr. Evanson can establish whether your mouth is healthy or if there are signs of disease. A wide range of health problems begin in the mouth, and conditions, such as vitamin deficiencies or osteoporosis or inflamed gums can indicate diabetes. Regular appointments will indicate new decay, and other issues not visible to the naked eye. Dental x-rays and a thorough exam may help detect issues before they become painful and often more difficult to treat.
Why are My Teeth Sensitive to Cold and Heat?
Tooth sensitivity is a literal pain when you eat or drink foods that are hot or cold, sweet, or acidic. This nerve response is usually due to tooth enamel erosion. This erosion exposes tooth pulp or dentin to extreme temperatures, sweets, etc. and causes pain. After an examination, Dr. Evanson will be able to recommend treatments, to reduce your sensitivity. In some cases, you may need other treatment if there is an exposed root.
How Can I Brighten My Smile?
As you age, you may experience some yellowing or discoloration of your teeth. Coffee, cola, wine, tobacco and foods with a lot of coloration will dull your smile. Dr. Evanson offers the BriteSmile® teeth whitening program, or a professional take-home whitening system.
White teeth create an attractive smile and provide a boost to your appearance and build your confidence. Call for an appointment at (720) 409-0008 for a whitening evaluation and a bright smile in your near future!
How Can I Take Better Care of My Teeth at Home?
Dr. Evanson would tell you that brushing and flossing your teeth are the first steps to a healthy mouth. She would recommend how you brush your teeth and what toothpaste to use. There are many ads for the “best toothpaste”, but Dr. Evanson can recommend the best toothpaste for your teeth.
Good oral hygiene at home includes:
- Brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes with a soft-bristled toothbrush with an ADA approved fluoride toothpaste.
- Flossing daily, preferably at bedtime.
- Replacing your toothbrush every three or four months.
- Limiting sugary beverages and snacks, while eating a balanced diet including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
