    Resolutions Worth Making in 2023

    Resolutions Worth Making in 2023

Now is the time most of us consider making New Year’s resolutions. Often, the resolutions go by the wayside after a few weeks. New habits take time and effort to implement into your daily life. However, there are a few resolutions that are worth making. More importantly, resolutions worth keeping, especially if it benefits your health. Resolve now to take better care of your teeth and gums throughout the coming year. Your mouth and overall health will thank you for it!

When making resolutions, it can be a challenge to stick to your goals all year long, especially if they are too complicated. Following is a list of simple resolutions that will make a change in your oral health and ultimately improve your physical health in the process.

Resolution #1: Make Sure You Have a Good Dentist

To begin the process of taking better care of your oral health, make sure you have a good dentist that you trust to take care of your dental needs. Dr. Angela S. Evanson, DDS, has provided quality dental care for her patients since 1994. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota and completed a pediatric mini-residency at the University of the Pacific Dental School. She is qualified and skilled in many areas of expertise as a dentist and can serve the dental needs of your whole family. Besides general dentistry, Dr. Evanson expertise includes cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening, dental crowns, dental implants, and dentures. Her top priority is to help children, teens and adults of all ages achieve and maintain a beautiful, healthy smile.

Resolution #2: Now is the Time to Quit Smoking or Vaping

In recent studies, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) cites that your risk for gum disease doubles if you smoke cigarettes, or vape. Tobacco in all forms weakens your immune system and makes it harder for your body to fight off gum infection. With gum damage, smoking makes it more difficult for your gums to heal. Now may be the time to quit using tobacco for good!

Reduced blood circulation inhibits your natural ability to fight against bacteria. Infection, decay rates, and other problems all can be accelerated. Over an extended period, tooth loss and other health problems can result from vaping. When the e-cigarette vapors are burned, it causes the release of inflammatory proteins in the gum tissue which usually leads to tooth loss.

This year might be the year to quit smoking and tobacco use in every form and really take control of your health. Your teeth, gums, lungs, and your whole body will thank you for it!

Resolution #3: Brush Twice a Day for Two Minutes Each Time and Floss Once a Day

While most of us remember to brush our teeth at least once a day, not as many of us can say that we brush twice a day and floss once a day as recommended. Make it a habit to brush and floss every day this year; and you will do yourself and your mouth a big favor.

Resolution #4: See Dr. Evanson Every 6 Months

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that you see your dentist for a professional cleaning and examination every 6 months. It’s important to have a scheduled visit with Dr. Evanson, so she can address any issues before they become serious problems.
